I was travelling in Australia years ago, staying on my uncle’s farm a proper frontier style place. We’d been on the road for hours, absolutely wrecked, and the woman running the place put a drop of lavender oil on our pillows before bed.

I’ve never forgotten it. That one small act of care, it stuck with me. I’ve done it ever since. For myself, for the kids, for guests. I walk into their rooms with my big bottle and chuck the oil around. It’s part scent, part ceremony.
